The ONLY baptism that really counts is being baptized by the holy spirit of Yah.
Water baptism is symbolic. It’s a SIGN of being REBORN. Water represents Yah’s (The Creator’s) holy spirit, and being immersed in it symbolizes washing away the old and being made a NEW CREATURE.
“Then He who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’” (Revelation 21:5)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 )
In order to be truly reborn, one has to die. Die to the self, and die to the world. But in this is great joy and freedom. It’s like diving into the Living Light.
Born-again believers are told to be baptized as a symbol of their new birth. Believers are also told to baptize others. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
John was sent ahead of Yashua (Messiah), baptizing people who repented and preparing the way for Him.
“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11)
“I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (Mark 1:8)
Yashua was God in flesh. He didn’t need to be baptized, but he did it to show us what we must do. He also didn’t baptize others, only his disciples did. “though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples.” (John 4:2)
Even John was aware: “And John tried to prevent Him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?’” (Matthew 3:14)
Baptism Shows You Want to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.” (Matthew 3:16)
Baptism Shows Repentance
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:16)
Baptism is a Sign of Death
In order to be reborn we must first die to the flesh. This means die to earthly ways and desires. We then become kingdom minded and kingdom dwellers.
“Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?” (Romans 6:3)
Baptism is a Sign of being Filled with The Messiah
“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Galations 3:27)
– Self Baptism –
But what if you can’t find a true believer to baptize you? Many are aware that a “church goer” may not be a true believer. Sadly, many church goers do not have the Holy Spirit, and live lives mired in sin. Many believe the lie that once you are saved, or say a “sinner’s prayer,” you are saved forever and then have a free license to sin. You may know this as the “once saved always saved” gospel, and it is responsible for many so-called Christians going to hell. See https://temple-of-messiah.com/jesus-takes-once-saved-always-saved-preacher-to-hell/ about a preacher who goes to hell.
And what if you are alone, in prison, or simply don’t know anyone who can baptize you? Or, what if you don’t want anyone to baptize you, or feel the need to share this special act only with your Lord and Savior?
Well, find yourself some water, and take a dip! You are not truly alone, as The Messiah is right there with you. The most important aspect is to repent from your heart, ask Yashua to enter into your heart and to baptize you with his Holy Spirit. That’s it and that’s all.
Again, the act is symbolic, and The Messiah knows you by your heart. He will lovingly do the rest. Pray on this if you’re unsure. Be patient, and the answer will come. Don’t believe the legalists who say you must be baptized a certain way, either in a church, by a pastor, or in some other ritualistic fashion. Some of these people also believe in baptism of babies, which is improper. And in baptism by sprinkling, which I’m just not too sure about that… Some also force you to join a church or group in order to be baptized, which is self-seeking and simply beyond wrong.
People can be baptized in rivers, in bathtubs, and other places where water is present. It’s probably a good idea to briefly fully immerse yourself, (and I would personally wear white) but more importantly, go with your heart and the voice or urging of Yashua who will help and guide you through it. Everyone is different and therefore every baptism is a unique personal experience that can’t be duplicated.
“And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16)
